- 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, loosely packed
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 5 cups cold water
- Ice cubes, for serving
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)
- Fresh basil sprigs, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, sugar, and basil leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes until sugar is dissolved and basil is fragrant.
- Remove from heat and let the basil syrup cool. Strain to remove the basil leaves.
- In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice and basil syrup.
- Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water and stir well.
- Refrigerate until chilled.
- Serve over ice with optional lemon slices and basil sprigs for garnish.
Notes
- Adjust sugar to taste if you prefer a sweeter or more tart lemonade.
- For a fizzy version, replace some water with sparkling water.
- You can muddle some basil leaves in the glass before serving for an extra punch of flavor.
