For the Pastry Layers:
- 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 tbsp powdered sugar (for dusting)
For the Vanilla Custard:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
For the Topping:
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Caramel sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Bake the Puff Pastry:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry and place it on a baking sheet.
- Prick with a fork and dust with powdered sugar.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Let it cool completely and cut into three equal rectangles.
- Prepare the Vanilla Custard:
- In a saucepan, heat milk until warm but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.
- Slowly add warm milk to the egg mixture while whisking.
- Return to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
- Remove from heat, add vanilla extract and butter, then let cool.
- Assemble the Mille-Feuille:
- Place one pastry layer on a serving plate and spread custard evenly.
- Repeat with another layer of pastry and custard.
- Top with the final pastry layer.
- Finishing Touches:
- Dust with powdered sugar.
- Drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.
- Chill & Serve:
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before slicing.
- Enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea!
