Description
A classic takeout favorite, Sweet and Sour Meat features tender, bite-sized meat pieces coated in a flavorful, tangy sauce made with vinegar, sugar, and ketchup, often served with stir-fried vegetables and rice.

- 500g pork, beef, or chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch (for coating)
- 1 egg, beaten
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for deep frying
- 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup pineapple chunks (canned or fresh)
- 1 tablespoon oil (for stir-frying)
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or white vinegar
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (slurry)
Instructions
- Season meat with salt and pepper. Dip in beaten egg, then coat with cornstarch.
- Heat oil in a deep pan or wok. Fry meat pieces in batches until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix ketchup, vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, and water to make the sweet and sour sauce.
- Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a wok or large skillet over medium heat. Stir-fry onion and bell peppers for 2-3 minutes.
- Add pineapple chunks and stir for another minute.
- Pour in the sweet and sour sauce and bring to a simmer. Add cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens.
- Add fried meat to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
Notes
- Can be made with pork, chicken, or beef depending on preference.
- For a healthier version, air fry or bake the meat instead of deep frying.
- Adjust sugar and vinegar to taste for a more sweet or tangy flavor.
