Sweet and Sour Beef is a flavorful Chinese-inspired dish made with tender beef strips, bell peppers, and pineapple chunks, all tossed in a tangy, glossy sweet and sour sauce.

- 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 cup pineapple chunks (canned or fresh)
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice
- 1/3 cup rice vinegar or white vinegar
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, coat the sliced beef with cornstarch and season with salt and pepper.
- Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add beef and cook until browned and crispy. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté garlic, ginger, onion, and bell peppers for 3-4 minutes until slightly tender.
- Add pineapple chunks and stir for 1 minute.
- In a bowl, whisk together pineapple juice, vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, and soy sauce to make the sweet and sour sauce.
- Pour the sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer until slightly thickened.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for 2 more minutes until heated through.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
Notes
- Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
- Adjust sugar and vinegar to taste for more sweetness or tang.
- Add chili flakes for a spicy kick.
