Description

Sweet and Savory Glazed Tofu Bites with Apple Chutney is a cozy, plant-based dish perfect for fall. Crispy tofu bites are coated in a flavorful glaze and served with a warm, spiced apple chutney, delivering comforting sweet and savory flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (for coating tofu)
  • 1 tbsp oil for frying
  • For the Apple Chutney:
  • 2 apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or heat a skillet over medium heat if pan-frying.
  2. In a bowl, whisk soy sauce, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper to make the glaze.
  3. Toss tofu cubes with cornstarch to coat lightly.
  4. Heat oil in a nonstick pan and cook tofu until golden on all sides, or bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  5. Pour glaze over tofu and cook for 2–3 minutes until caramelized and sticky. Remove from heat.
  6. To make the chutney, combine apples, onion, ginger, brown sugar, vinegar, cinnamon, cloves, chili flakes, and salt in a small saucepan.
  7. Simmer over medium heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft and mixture is thickened.
  8. Serve warm tofu bites with apple chutney on the side or spooned over top. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • Use extra-firm tofu for best texture and press well before cooking.
  • Chutney can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Add chopped nuts or raisins to the chutney for extra texture.
  • Great served with rice, quinoa, or crusty bread.
