Scale
- 1 head green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 2 cups tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Core the cabbage and carefully remove whole leaves. Boil until tender and pliable, about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika until well combined.
- Lay a cabbage leaf flat, place a portion of the meat mixture in the center, and roll it up like a burrito, tucking in the sides.
- Arrange the rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
- Pour tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls and cover the dish with foil.
- Bake for 1 hour, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- Use green cabbage for the best results due to its large, flexible leaves.
- You can prepare the rolls a day ahead and bake when needed.
- Leftovers store well and can be frozen up to 2 months.
- Try swapping rice with cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.
- Add chili flakes for a spicy version or cheese for extra richness.
