Description

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls are a classic comfort food featuring tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a savory filling of seasoned meat and rice, baked in a rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 head green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Core the cabbage and carefully remove whole leaves. Boil until tender and pliable, about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, mix ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika until well combined.
  4. Lay a cabbage leaf flat, place a portion of the meat mixture in the center, and roll it up like a burrito, tucking in the sides.
  5. Arrange the rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
  6. Pour tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls and cover the dish with foil.
  7. Bake for 1 hour, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use green cabbage for the best results due to its large, flexible leaves.
  • You can prepare the rolls a day ahead and bake when needed.
  • Leftovers store well and can be frozen up to 2 months.
  • Try swapping rice with cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy version or cheese for extra richness.
