Description

These strawberry and chocolate trifle cups are a luxurious dessert featuring layers of creamy vanilla custard, rich chocolate ganache, and fresh strawberries. For the Vanilla Custard Layer:

  • 2 cups (500ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

For the Chocolate Ganache Layer:

  • 1 cup (180g) dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream

For Assembly & Decoration:

  • 2 cups (300g) fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1012 chocolate truffles or brigadeiros
  • 1 cup (250ml) whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Vanilla Custard

  1. In a saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch until smooth.
  3. Gradually pour warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring continuously, until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract and butter, then let cool.

Step 2: Make the Chocolate Ganache

  1. Heat heavy cream until warm but not boiling.
  2. Pour over chopped chocolate and let sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth.

Step 3: Assemble the Trifle Cups

  1. Arrange sliced strawberries around the inside of each dessert cup.
  2. Add a layer of vanilla custard followed by a layer of chocolate ganache.
  3. Top with chocolate truffles and fresh strawberry slices.
  4. (Optional) Add a dollop of whipped cream for extra richness.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, replace custard with vanilla yogurt or whipped cream.
  • Substitute white chocolate ganache for a different flavor twist.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before serving.
