Description
Spicy Roasted Chickpeas are crunchy, protein-rich bites oven-roasted with bold spices, making them a flavorful and healthy alternative to traditional snacks like chips or crackers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Drain and rinse chickpeas, then pat them very dry with a clean towel or paper towels.
- Spread the chickpeas on the baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Remove from oven, toss chickpeas with olive oil, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
- Return chickpeas to the oven and roast for 20–30 minutes, shaking the pan every 10 minutes for even browning.
- Let chickpeas cool completely before serving to maximize crispiness.
Notes
- Add a touch of honey or maple syrup for a sweet and spicy variation.
- Toss with fresh lemon zest after roasting for a bright, citrusy flavor.
- Incorporate dried herbs like thyme, oregano, or rosemary for extra aroma.
- Use curry powder and turmeric for an Indian-inspired twist.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- Re-crisp in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for 5–10 minutes if needed.
