Description

Spicy Italian Sausage Pasta is a bold and hearty dish featuring savory sausage cooked in a rich, spicy tomato sauce, tossed with perfectly cooked pasta for a satisfying and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 oz pasta (penne or rigatoni)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb spicy Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through.
  3. Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and add oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes to develop flavor.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Simmer for another 2–3 minutes until creamy and slightly thickened.
  6. Add cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or parsley.

Notes

  • Use sweet Italian sausage if you prefer a milder flavor.
  • For extra vegetables, add spinach, zucchini, or bell peppers to the sauce.
  • Can be made dairy-free by omitting cream and cheese or using plant-based alternatives.
  • Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days.
