Description

Soft, fluffy homemade dinner rolls brushed with butter and topped with toasted sesame seeds—perfect for holiday meals or everyday dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg.
  3. Knead by hand or mixer for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add small amounts of flour if needed.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide into 12–15 equal pieces. Shape into smooth balls.
  6. Place rolls in a greased baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  8. Bake 15–18 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Brush again with melted butter for extra softness, if desired.

Notes

  • For extra softness, replace half the milk with warm water.
  • Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight for a slower rise.
  • Use toasted sesame seeds for stronger flavor.
