- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (parsley, rosemary, thyme, or a mix)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Add melted butter, egg, salt, and half of the flour. Mix until combined.
- Gradually add remaining flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball.
- Place balls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise again until doubled, about 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown.
- While still warm, brush tops with melted butter mixed with minced garlic and chopped herbs.
- Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
- Add shredded cheese to the dough for cheesy rolls.
- Incorporate chopped jalapeños for a spicy version.
- Substitute half the flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in oven at 350°F for 5–10 minutes or microwave for 15–20 seconds.
