Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add egg, softened butter, salt, and half of the flour. Mix until combined.
- Gradually add remaining flour and knead 5–7 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Punch down dough and divide into 12–15 equal balls.
- Place dough balls in a greased baking dish and cover. Let rise 30–40 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake rolls for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush warm rolls with melted butter before serving.
Notes
- Ensure milk is warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
- Kneading is key for soft, stretchy rolls.
- For sweeter rolls, increase sugar to 1/3 cup.
