- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for a richer sauce)
- 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Grated Parmesan cheese for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add chicken and sear for 5-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Lower heat to medium, add butter and garlic to the skillet, and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- If using, add heavy cream and stir to combine.
- Add chopped basil and lemon juice, simmer for 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Return chicken to the skillet and spoon sauce over the top. Simmer for 2 more minutes.
- Garnish with Parmesan cheese if desired and serve hot.
Notes
- Use thin chicken cutlets for faster cooking.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a slight kick.
- This dish pairs well with pasta, mashed potatoes, or crusty bread.
- Use fresh basil for the best flavor, not dried.
