Description

Rich Dark Chocolate Cake is the embodiment of chocolate perfection, featuring deeply flavored layers and a smooth, glossy ganache frosting. Perfect for any celebration or chocolate craving.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee or boiling water
  • 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • Chocolate curls (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth, then gradually add hot coffee or water.
  4. Divide batter between pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Cool cakes completely in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  6. For ganache, heat cream until steaming and pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until glossy and smooth.
  7. Frost the cooled cakes with ganache. Decorate with chocolate curls.
  8. Chill briefly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cocoa and chocolate for best flavor.
  • Don’t overmix the batter to avoid dense texture.
  • Ganache should be cool but still spreadable when frosting.
  • Adjust sweetness by using milk chocolate or adding a bit more sugar.
  • Serve at room temperature for best texture and flavor.
