- 2 lbs pork shoulder or chicken breast/thighs
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4–6 sandwich buns
- Optional: coleslaw for topping
Instructions
- Season the pork or chicken with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Place meat in a slow cooker with chicken broth, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar.
- Cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours until the meat is tender and easily shredded.
- Remove meat and shred with two forks. Discard excess liquid from the slow cooker.
- Return shredded meat to the slow cooker and mix with barbecue sauce. Cook on low for an additional 15–20 minutes.
- Toast sandwich buns if desired. Pile the pulled barbecue meat onto each bun.
- Top with coleslaw if using, and serve warm.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add hot sauce or cayenne pepper to the barbecue sauce.
- This recipe works well with pork, chicken, or jackfruit for a vegetarian option.
