Description
Powdered Sugar Snowball Cookies are tender, buttery shortbread-style cookies filled with finely chopped nuts and coated generously in powdered sugar — a classic holiday favorite that melts in your mouth.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus more for rolling)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla extract.
- Gradually stir in flour and salt until a soft dough forms. Fold in chopped nuts.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spaced 1 inch apart.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until bottoms are lightly golden. Tops should remain pale.
- Cool cookies for 5 minutes, then roll them in powdered sugar while still warm.
- Let cookies cool completely, then roll in powdered sugar again before serving for a snowy finish.
Notes
- Double rolling in powdered sugar helps give the cookies their signature snowy look and flavor.
- Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- Use finely chopped nuts to keep the cookies from crumbling.
- These cookies freeze well — roll in final powdered sugar coating after thawing.
