Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf takes the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak and transforms them into a juicy, cheesy, and hearty meatloaf. Loaded with tender beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and topped with gooey melted cheese, this dish is the perfect comfort food for dinner. Serve it with mashed potatoes or a toasted hoagie roll for a complete meal!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)

For the Topping:

  • 4 slices provolone or cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture:

  1. Preheat Oven – Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Sauté the Veggies – In a pan, heat olive oil, then cook onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and garlic until soft. Let cool slightly.
  3. Mix the Meatloaf – In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed veggies, shredded cheese, breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, and all seasonings. Mix until well combined.

Shape & Bake:

  1. Shape the Meatloaf – Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place it on a lined baking sheet or in a loaf pan.
  2. Bake – Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Add the Cheese Topping:

  1. Melt the Cheese – Remove meatloaf from the oven, top with provolone or cheddar cheese slices, and return to the oven for 5 more minutes until melted.
  2. Rest & Serve – Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes, then garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add sliced jalapeños or use pepper jack cheese.
  • Swap beef for ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Serve with garlic mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or on a hoagie roll for a sandwich-style meal.
