Pepper Steak is a quick and flavorful stir-fry featuring tender slices of beef, vibrant bell peppers, and onions, all tossed in a rich and savory sauce. It’s a classic Chinese-American dish perfect for serving over steamed rice.

- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water or beef broth
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Cooked white rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss beef slices with soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry beef until browned and just cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Add remaining oil to the pan. Stir-fry garlic, onions, and bell peppers until just tender, about 3–4 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk together oyster sauce, water or broth, and brown sugar.
- Return beef to the pan and pour in the sauce. Stir well to combine.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes until everything is well coated and the sauce has thickened.
- Serve hot over steamed white rice.
Notes
- Add sliced mushrooms or snow peas for extra texture and flavor.
- Use chicken or tofu instead of beef for variation.
- Spice it up with chili paste or red pepper flakes.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Reheat with a splash of water to maintain sauce consistency.
