Description

Pepper Steak is a quick and flavorful stir-fry featuring tender slices of beef, vibrant bell peppers, and onions, all tossed in a rich and savory sauce. It’s a classic Chinese-American dish perfect for serving over steamed rice.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss beef slices with soy sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry beef until browned and just cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add remaining oil to the pan. Stir-fry garlic, onions, and bell peppers until just tender, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together oyster sauce, water or broth, and brown sugar.
  5. Return beef to the pan and pour in the sauce. Stir well to combine.
  6. Cook for 2–3 minutes until everything is well coated and the sauce has thickened.
  7. Serve hot over steamed white rice.

Notes

  • Add sliced mushrooms or snow peas for extra texture and flavor.
  • Use chicken or tofu instead of beef for variation.
  • Spice it up with chili paste or red pepper flakes.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat with a splash of water to maintain sauce consistency.
