Description

A rich, dense, and moist traditional German fruit cake loaded with candied fruits, nuts, and warm spices. Perfect for the holiday season!


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups mixed candied fruits (cherries, citrus peels, raisins)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pecans)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and line a cake pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in molasses, orange juice, and vanilla.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients and mix well. Fold in candied fruits and nuts.
  • Pour into the cake pan and bake for 1.5 to 2 hours or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool completely before slicing.
