Description

Relish the warmth of Old Fashioned Bread Pudding, a classic dessert made with simple ingredients and topped with a rich and creamy vanilla sauce. Perfect for cozy gatherings and sweet cravings.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Bread Pudding:

  • 4 slices of sliced bread
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/3 cup slivered almonds

For the Vanilla Sauce:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (optional for thickening)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Bread Pudding

  1. Preheat oven to 360°F (180°C). Grease a baking pan with butter or caramel.
  2. Cut the bread into squares and dip in milk until fully soaked.
  3. In a bowl, beat eggs with sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg until well combined.
  4. Mix the egg mixture with the milk-soaked bread. Fold in the raisins and slivered almonds.

Step 2: Bake

  1. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan.
  2. Bake for 1 hour, or until the pudding is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 3: Prepare the Vanilla Sauce

  1. In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, sugar, and butter over medium heat. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Stir in vanilla extract. If you prefer a thicker sauce, add the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2–3 minutes until thickened.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving.
  2. Drizzle the warm vanilla sauce over the pudding and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra richness, use brioche or challah bread instead of plain sliced bread.
  • Customize by adding chocolate chips or swapping raisins for dried cranberries.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
