- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/3 cup slivered almonds
For the Vanilla Sauce:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (optional for thickening)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Bread Pudding
- Preheat oven to 360°F (180°C). Grease a baking pan with butter or caramel.
- Cut the bread into squares and dip in milk until fully soaked.
- In a bowl, beat eggs with sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, salt, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Mix the egg mixture with the milk-soaked bread. Fold in the raisins and slivered almonds.
Step 2: Bake
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 1 hour, or until the pudding is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step 3: Prepare the Vanilla Sauce
- In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, sugar, and butter over medium heat. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
- Stir in vanilla extract. If you prefer a thicker sauce, add the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2–3 minutes until thickened.
Step 4: Serve
- Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving.
- Drizzle the warm vanilla sauce over the pudding and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra richness, use brioche or challah bread instead of plain sliced bread.
- Customize by adding chocolate chips or swapping raisins for dried cranberries.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
