Description

Million Dollar Lasagna is a decadent, multi-layered pasta dish featuring hearty meat sauce, rich ricotta and cream cheese filling, and a bubbling layer of mozzarella. It’s named for its luxurious taste and texture that’s worth every bite.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups marinara or pasta sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta, cream cheese, sour cream, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  5. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer noodles, meat sauce, cheese mixture, and shredded mozzarella. Repeat layers, ending with meat sauce and mozzarella on top. Sprinkle with parmesan.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Let lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley or basil if desired.

Notes

  • Use cottage cheese instead of ricotta for a different texture.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Add spinach or zucchini for more vegetables.
  • Incorporate a béchamel layer for a traditional Italian variation.
  • Lasagna freezes well—wrap tightly and freeze up to 2 months.
