- 2 tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp turmeric (for color, optional)
- 1/4 tsp black salt (kala namak) or regular salt
- 2 tbsp maple syrup (for glaze)
- 1 tbsp vegan butter or oil (for cooking)
- 1 cup fresh berries (e.g., strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)
- Additional maple syrup (for serving)
Instructions
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then slice into 1/2-inch thick rectangles or triangles.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together plant-based milk, nutritional yeast, cornstarch, cinnamon, turmeric, and black salt.
- Dip each tofu slice into the mixture, coating both sides well.
- Heat vegan butter or oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the tofu slices for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden and crispy.
- Brush or drizzle maple syrup over the tofu slices and cook for another minute to glaze.
- Remove from heat and plate the tofu French toast.
- Top with fresh berries and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
- Drizzle with extra maple syrup and serve warm.
Notes
- Use black salt for an eggy flavor, or regular salt if unavailable.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup used.
- Serve with vegan yogurt or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in a pan.
