Description

Layered Beef & Cheese Taco is a hearty and flavorful taco dish stacked with seasoned ground beef, melty cheese, fresh toppings, and zesty sauces—all layered for maximum flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tablespoons homemade)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 6 small flour or corn tortillas
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • Chopped cilantro and sliced jalapeños for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Drain excess fat, then add taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  3. Warm tortillas slightly in a pan or microwave to make them pliable.
  4. On a serving plate, place a tortilla and spread a layer of beef, followed by cheese. Repeat layering with remaining tortillas, beef, and cheese, ending with cheese on top.
  5. Place stacked taco layers in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5–7 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  6. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sour cream, salsa, and optional garnishes.
  7. Slice into wedges and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Add refried beans or guacamole between layers for extra flavor.
  • Use lean ground beef or turkey for a lighter option.
  • Make it spicy with hot salsa or extra jalapeños.
