Description

Juicy Italian sausages simmered in a rich, savory tomato sauce with garlic and herbs, perfect for serving over pasta or with crusty bread.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausages
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add Italian sausages and brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  7. Return the sausages to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 25–30 minutes until sausages are fully cooked.
  8. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve hot.

Notes

  • Serve over spaghetti, polenta, or with toasted bread.
  • You can use spicy or mild Italian sausages.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days.
