- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Food coloring or sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Mix in vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the batter, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
- Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
- Frost the cooled cake and decorate with food coloring or sprinkles as desired.
Notes
- You can split the cake and add a fruit or jam filling.
- Buttercream frosting can be used instead of whipped cream.
- Chill the cake slightly before serving for cleaner slices.
