For the Teriyaki Sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 cup water, divided
- 2 tbsp honey
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated or minced
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp orange zest
For the Stir Fry:
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
To Make the Teriyaki Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, combine ¾ cup water, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until combined and bring to a gentle boil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together ¼ cup water and cornstarch until smooth. Slowly stir the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Remove the sauce from heat, stir in orange zest, and set aside.
To Make the Stir Fry:
- Heat sesame oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Add ground turkey to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully cooked and browned (about 7-10 minutes). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Stir in broccoli florets and shredded carrots. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and heated through.
- Reduce heat to low and pour the prepared teriyaki sauce over the turkey and vegetables. Stir to coat evenly and simmer for a few minutes to let the flavors meld.
To Serve:
Serve over steamed rice, cauliflower rice, noodles, or enjoy as lettuce wraps.
Notes
- Protein Options: Swap ground turkey for ground chicken, pork, or beef.
- Vegetable Substitutions: Customize with bell peppers, snap peas, zucchini, or baby corn.
- Spice It Up: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes, cayenne, or a drizzle of sriracha for heat.
- Adjust Sauce Consistency: Thin out the sauce with water if it becomes too thick.
