Description

This delicious Grilled Caprese Sandwich takes the classic Italian Caprese salad and transforms it into a warm, melty masterpiece! With fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, basil, and a drizzle of balsamic, it’s the perfect quick lunch or light dinner packed with fresh flavors.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices of crusty bread (like sourdough or ciabatta)

  • 4 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • 1 large ripe tomato, sliced

  • Fresh basil leaves

  • 2 tablespoons pesto (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or softened butter

 

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste


Instructions

  • Preheat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat.

  • Spread a thin layer of pesto (if using) on the inside of each slice of bread.

  • Layer mozzarella slices, tomato slices, and fresh basil on one side of the bread.

  • Drizzle lightly with balsamic glaze, and sprinkle with salt and black pepper.

  • Top with the second slice of bread.

  • Brush the outside of the sandwich with olive oil or softened butter.

  • Grill the sandwich for 2-3 minutes on each side until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.

 

  • Slice and serve immediately.


Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a few slices of avocado or a handful of arugula.

  • Use a panini press if you have one for perfectly even grilling.

 

  • Fresh mozzarella works best, but you can use regular mozzarella slices in a pinch.
