Description
Goat Cheese and Fig Tart is a savory-sweet appetizer or elegant side dish featuring a flaky pastry crust topped with tangy goat cheese, fresh or dried figs, and a drizzle of honey — perfect for entertaining or a light brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 4 oz goat cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp cream cheese or sour cream
- 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 tsp dried thyme)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 6–8 fresh figs, halved (or 1/2 cup dried figs, sliced)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (optional for brushing figs)
- 1 tbsp honey, for drizzling
- Optional: 2 tbsp chopped walnuts or pistachios for topping
- Fresh thyme sprigs, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle or circle, and place on the prepared sheet. Score a 1/2-inch border around the edge with a knife (do not cut through). Prick the center with a fork.
- In a bowl, mix goat cheese, cream cheese (or sour cream), thyme, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Spread the goat cheese mixture evenly within the scored border of the pastry.
- Top with halved figs, cut side up. Brush lightly with olive oil if desired.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until pastry is golden and puffed.
- Remove from oven, drizzle with honey, and sprinkle with nuts and fresh thyme if using.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Use dried figs when fresh are out of season — soak briefly in warm water to soften.
- Add a bit of balsamic glaze for a richer flavor profile.
- This tart also works well with blue cheese for a bolder taste.
- Cut into small squares for an appetizer or larger slices for a brunch plate.
