Description

Glazed churros are a classic fried pastry with a crisp, golden exterior and a tender, airy interior. Finished with either a smooth vanilla glaze or a rich chocolate glaze, these churros bring the fairground magic to your kitchen, perfect for sharing at parties or enjoying as a homemade treat.


Ingredients

  • Water
  • Unsalted butter
  • Salt
  • All-purpose flour
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Classic glaze:
    • Powdered sugar
    • Milk
    • Vanilla extract
  • Chocolate glaze:
    • Semi-sweet chocolate
    • Heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring water, butter, and salt to a boil. Remove from heat, stir in flour, and mix until dough forms. Return to low heat for a minute or two, stirring constantly. Let cool slightly.
  2. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until dough is smooth and glossy.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Pipe dough strips into the oil, snipping with scissors. Fry until golden brown, turning once.
  5. Drain on paper towels. Dip warm churros in glaze or drizzle glaze over top.

Notes

  • For a cinnamon-sugar variation, roll warm churros in cinnamon sugar instead of glazing.
  • Try caramel or white chocolate glaze for a unique twist.
  • Add orange zest to the dough for a citrusy twist.
  • Churros are best fresh. Store unglazed leftovers in an airtight container for 1 day and reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes.
