Scale
- 1.5 lbs sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
- 2 lbs potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and cubed
- 4 tbsp butter (for mashed potatoes)
- 1/2 cup milk or heavy cream
- Salt and pepper, to taste (for mashed potatoes)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, milk or cream, salt, and pepper. Set aside and keep warm.
- While potatoes cook, season steak cubes with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak in a single layer (cook in batches if needed) and sear for 2–3 minutes per side until browned and cooked to desired doneness. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium and add butter to the same skillet. Once melted, stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Return steak bites to the skillet and toss to coat in the garlic butter. Cook for 1–2 minutes more.
- Serve steak bites over mashed potatoes and garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use a hot skillet to get a nice sear on the steak.
- Do not overcrowd the pan—cook steak bites in batches if necessary.
- For creamier mashed potatoes, use heavy cream instead of milk.
- Sirloin works best, but ribeye or strip steak can be used.
