Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped or chips
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or sea salt for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter and chocolate over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Whisk in granulated sugar and brown sugar until combined.
- Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Sift in flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Fold gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle with optional toppings if desired.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
- Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
Notes
- For extra fudginess, slightly underbake and cool completely before cutting.
- Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
- Add espresso powder to intensify the chocolate flavor.
