Description

Fish Fillet with Shrimp & Mashed Potatoes is a refined, restaurant-style dish featuring seared white fish, juicy shrimp, and creamy mashed potatoes, all brought together with a garlic herb butter sauce for an elegant yet comforting meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 white fish fillets (such as cod, halibut, or sea bass)
  • 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley or chives, chopped
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (prepared from russet or Yukon gold potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for mashed potatoes)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for mashed potatoes)
  • Optional: cherry tomatoes, paprika, or white wine for deglazing

Instructions

  1. Season fish fillets and shrimp with salt, pepper, and a bit of lemon juice.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear fish fillets for 3–4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add butter and garlic. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add shrimp and cook for about 2 minutes per side, or until pink and opaque.
  5. Deglaze the pan with lemon juice or a splash of white wine, scraping up the brown bits. Stir in chopped herbs.
  6. Prepare mashed potatoes: boil peeled potatoes until tender, then mash with butter and heavy cream until smooth. Season with salt to taste.
  7. To serve, plate a scoop of mashed potatoes, place a fish fillet on top, and layer with shrimp. Drizzle with garlic butter sauce.
  8. Garnish with additional herbs and optional cherry tomatoes or a sprinkle of paprika.

Notes

  • Use full-fat cream and butter for the creamiest mashed potatoes.
  • Don’t overcook the shrimp—they should just turn pink and firm.
  • Deglazing adds flavor—use white wine or citrus juice.
  • Mashed potatoes can be made ahead and reheated gently.
  • Pair with green vegetables for a complete plate.
