- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 3/4 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup fig preserves or fig jam
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with honey and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the center third of the pastry sheet.
- Spoon fig preserves over the ricotta layer.
- Fold the sides of the pastry over the filling, overlapping slightly. Pinch the seams to seal and tuck the ends underneath.
- Place the roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the top with beaten egg.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and slicing to serve.
Notes
- You can use fresh figs in place of preserves when in season.
- Add chopped nuts like walnuts or pistachios for extra texture.
- This pastry can be served warm or at room temperature.
