For the Chocolate Cake Layer:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Pudding Layer:
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
For the Ganache Layer:
- 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Bake the Chocolate Cake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix dry ingredients in one bowl, wet ingredients in another. Combine and bake in a greased pan for 20-25 minutes. Let cool and cut into cubes.
- Prepare the Pudding: In a saucepan, heat milk, sugar, cocoa, and cornstarch. Stir constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and mix in vanilla. Let cool.
- Make the Ganache: Heat heavy cream until steaming, pour over chopped chocolate, and stir until smooth.
- Assemble the Trifle: Layer chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, and ganache in a large trifle dish. Repeat layers.
- Garnish & Serve: Top with vanilla custard cubes, chocolate shavings, and a dusting of cocoa powder. Chill before serving.
