Description
Crispy Sesame Cauliflower Bites are a delicious plant-based appetizer or snack featuring battered and baked cauliflower florets tossed in a sweet, savory sesame sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 medium head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred for extra crispiness)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, water, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until a smooth batter forms.
- Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, letting excess drip off, then coat with breadcrumbs.
- Place coated florets on the baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy.
- Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine sesame oil, soy sauce, maple syrup (or honey), and rice vinegar over medium heat.
- Once warm, stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove baked cauliflower from oven and toss with the sesame sauce until coated.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a full meal.
- Adjust sweetness by using more or less maple syrup or honey.
- Air fryer can be used instead of oven for extra crispiness.
