Description

Crispy potato fritters are golden, crunchy patties made from shredded potatoes, onions, and seasonings, pan-fried until perfectly crisp outside and tender inside.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Russet potatoes, shredded
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped or shredded
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Chopped chives (for garnish)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Peel and shred the potatoes. Place in a clean towel and squeeze out as much moisture as possible.
  2. In a large bowl, combine shredded potatoes, onion, egg, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using. Mix until well combined.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Scoop about 1/4 cup of the mixture and form into a patty. Place in the hot oil.
  5. Fry each patty for 3–4 minutes per side or until golden and crispy.
  6. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. Garnish with chopped chives and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Squeeze potatoes well to prevent soggy fritters.
  • Use starchy potatoes like Russets for best crispiness.
  • Reheat in an oven or skillet to retain texture.
  • Customize with cheese, herbs, or extra veggies.
  • Prepare batter ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.
