Ingredients

  • 12 oz penne pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy, casings removed)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: crushed red pepper flakes, chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook penne pasta in salted boiling water according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned and fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté garlic until fragrant.
  4. Add heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in Parmesan cheese and cook until sauce thickens.
  5. Return sausage to the skillet, add cooked pasta, and toss to coat in the sauce.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and extra Parmesan. Serve hot.
