Description
Creamy Homemade Hot Chocolate is a rich and indulgent drink made with real cocoa powder, milk, and melted chocolate for an ultra-smooth and velvety texture — perfect for warming up on chilly days.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups whole milk (or any milk of choice)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, cinnamon
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk, heavy cream (if using), cocoa powder, sugar, and salt until well combined and warmed through.
- Add chopped chocolate and whisk continuously until completely melted and smooth, about 2–3 minutes.
- Stir in vanilla extract and remove from heat.
- Pour into mugs and top with your favorite toppings like whipped cream or marshmallows. Serve warm.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate for the richest flavor.
- For a dairy-free version, use almond, oat, or soy milk and skip the heavy cream.
- Customize with peppermint extract, cinnamon, or a dash of espresso powder for flavor variations.
- Double the recipe to serve a crowd — keep warm in a slow cooker on low heat.
