Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Steak:

  • 2 ribeye or sirloin steaks (about 1 lb total)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Garlic Mushroom Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cups cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish:

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the Steak:
    • Pat the steaks dry and season generously with salt and pepper.
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Sear steaks for 3–4 minutes on each side for medium-rare (adjust time based on preferred doneness). Add butter and baste the steaks during the last minute of cooking. Remove and rest for 5 minutes. Slice thinly.
  2. Prepare the Mushroom Sauce:
    • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add mushrooms and sauté until golden brown (about 5 minutes).
    • Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
    • Add beef broth and simmer for 2 minutes. Stir in heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and parmesan cheese. Simmer until the sauce thickens slightly. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Combine and Serve:
    • Return the sliced steak to the skillet, spooning the sauce and mushrooms over the meat. Let it warm for 1–2 minutes.
    • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, deglaze the skillet with a splash of red wine before adding the beef broth.
  • Swap heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter sauce.
  • Use any steak cut you prefer, adjusting the cooking time accordingly.
