Description

Classic tiramisu squares with dark chocolate drizzle are a refined, handheld take on the beloved Italian dessert, layered with espresso-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cream, topped with cocoa powder and bittersweet melted chocolate.


Ingredients

  • 24 ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi)
  • 16 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
  • 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • 2 oz dark chocolate, melted (for drizzle)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Brew espresso or strong coffee and allow to cool. Stir in coffee liqueur if using.
  2. In a heatproof bowl over a double boiler, whisk egg yolks and sugar until thick and pale. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Whip heavy cream to stiff peaks.
  4. In another bowl, beat mascarpone until smooth. Fold in the cooled egg mixture, followed by whipped cream and vanilla extract.
  5. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, avoiding oversaturation.
  6. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in a square or rectangular dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the layer.
  7. Repeat with remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone cream.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  9. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and drizzle with melted dark chocolate.
  10. Cut into squares using a hot knife for clean slices.
