Description

A smooth, creamy, and irresistible queso dip just like the one from your favorite Mexican restaurant! Perfect for dipping tortilla chips or drizzling over tacos.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb white American cheese, cubed (or shredded)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (more if needed)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for spice)
  • 1 small can (4 oz) diced green chilies (optional)
  • 1/4 cup diced pickled jalapeños (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons juice from the jalapeño jar (optional for extra flavor)

Instructions

    • Melt the Cheese:
      • In a saucepan over low heat, melt butter, then add the shredded or cubed white American cheese.
      • Pour in milk and heavy cream, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
    • Season and Flavor:
      • Add garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
      • If using, mix in diced green chilies and pickled jalapeños for extra flavor.
    • Achieve the Perfect Consistency:
      • Keep stirring until the cheese is fully melted and smooth.
      • If the dip is too thick, add more milk a little at a time.
    • Finish and Serve:
      • Remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro.
      • Serve warm with tortilla chips, tacos, nachos, or as a drizzle over enchiladas!

Notes

  • White American cheese melts best for that authentic Mexican restaurant taste.
  • For a spicier dip, add hot sauce or cayenne pepper.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat with a splash of milk.
