Description

Chocolate Walnut Toffee Bars are rich dessert bars made with a buttery shortbread crust, chewy toffee layer, crunchy walnuts, and smooth melted chocolate—perfect for holidays, parties, or gifting.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, and butter until crumbly. Press mixture evenly into the prepared pan to form the crust.
  3. Bake crust for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  4. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sweetened condensed milk and corn syrup. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and turns golden (about 10 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and salt. Pour evenly over baked crust and spread gently.
  6. Sprinkle chopped walnuts evenly over the toffee layer.
  7. Return to oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot surface. Let sit for 2–3 minutes to melt, then spread evenly.
  9. Cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate until firm. Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

  • Swap walnuts with pecans, almonds, or omit for a nut-free version.
  • Use dark chocolate chips for a less sweet alternative.
  • Top with sea salt flakes for sweet-salty contrast.
  • Drizzle cooled bars with white chocolate for decoration.
  • Freeze in layers separated by parchment for up to 2 months.
