- 1 tablespoon orange zest (for curd)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for curd)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch or flour (optional, for thickening curd)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, orange juice, zest, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Slowly stir in boiling water.
- Divide batter evenly between pans and bake 25–30 minutes. Cool completely.
- For orange curd: In a saucepan, whisk eggs, sugar, orange juice, and zest. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Stir in butter. Add cornstarch if needed. Chill completely.
- For ganache: Heat heavy cream until steaming, then pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit 1 minute, then stir until smooth. Cool slightly.
- Assemble cake: Place one layer on a plate, spread with orange curd. Repeat with remaining layers.
- Pour ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides. Smooth with a spatula if needed.
- Garnish with orange zest or slices. Chill 30 minutes before slicing.
