A rich, velvety chocolate mousse topped with light, fluffy whipped cream—an elegant yet easy dessert perfect for any occasion.

- 6 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 large eggs, separated
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream (for folding)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream (for whipped cream topping)
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a heatproof bowl set over simmering water, melt the chocolate and butter together, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Whisk in the egg yolks one at a time until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites with the granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
- In another bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream with vanilla extract until medium peaks form.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture.
- Fold the egg whites into the mousse mixture in two additions until fully incorporated.
- Divide the mousse into serving glasses and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Before serving, whip the remaining 1 cup of heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form and spoon or pipe onto the chilled mousse.
Notes
- For a stronger chocolate flavor, use bittersweet chocolate.
- Add a splash of coffee or espresso powder to enhance the chocolate.
- Chill the serving glasses beforehand for a firmer mousse.
