Description

Chocolate Lava Cookies are fudgy cookies with a crisp exterior and a gooey, molten center. Perfect for chocolate lovers, they offer an indulgent surprise with every bite and make an impressive dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or cream cheese (for filling)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
  6. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough and flatten it. Place a small spoonful of white chocolate or cream cheese in the center.
  7. Fold dough around the filling, seal the edges, and roll into a ball.
  8. Roll each ball in chocolate chips to coat the outside.
  9. Place on prepared baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set but the center is still soft.
  10. Cool slightly before serving to enjoy the molten center.

Notes

  • Ensure dough fully seals the filling to prevent leaks.
  • Do not overbake—center should remain slightly underdone for the lava effect.
  • Microwaving for 10–15 seconds helps revive the gooey center if cookies cool down.
  • Chill dough if your kitchen is warm to avoid spreading.
  • Use a small cookie scoop for uniform sizes and even baking.
