Description

Chocolate & Green Mousse Cake is a luxurious layered dessert that pairs a rich chocolate cake base with a light, refreshing green mousse—often pistachio or matcha flavored—topped with elegant decorations. Perfect for celebrations and special occasions.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring (optional)
  • 1/3 cup pistachio paste or 2 tbsp matcha powder
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tsp gelatin (or agar agar for vegetarian option)
  • 100g dark chocolate (for topping or frosting)
  • 2 tbsp crushed pistachios or pumpkin seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a round cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, sugar, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet and mix until fully combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  6. Whip the cream until soft peaks form.
  7. Dissolve gelatin in warm water. Mix it with pistachio paste or matcha and a bit of sugar, then fold into the whipped cream. Add green food coloring if desired.
  8. Spread mousse over the cooled chocolate cake, smoothing the top. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours to set.
  9. Once set, pipe chocolate frosting on top and sprinkle with crushed pistachios or pumpkin seeds.
  10. Slice and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Chill the mousse well for the best texture.
  • Use agar agar for a vegetarian-friendly version.
  • White chocolate can be used instead of dark for a different flavor.
  • Make in individual cups for personalized servings.
