- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- Chocolate curls or shavings, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a rectangular baking dish or cake pan.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, alternating with milk and sour cream, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely, at least 1 hour, before layering.
- To make the fudge layer, heat heavy cream until just simmering and pour over chopped semi-sweet chocolate. Stir until smooth and let cool slightly to thicken.
- Spread the fudge evenly over the cooled cake.
- Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings or curls.
- Chill the cake before serving to set the layers.
