Description

Chocolate-Filled Sugar Donuts are soft, fluffy yeast donuts rolled in sugar and filled with a rich chocolate center—an indulgent, bakery-style treat perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup semisweet or milk chocolate (or chocolate spread)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, 1 tsp sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, salt, eggs, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead in softened butter and continue kneading for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down dough, roll it out on a floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness, and cut out circles using a cutter. Let rise again for 30 minutes.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. While warm, roll donuts in granulated sugar to coat evenly.
  7. Melt chocolate or prepare chocolate spread. Fill a piping bag with a narrow tip and pipe chocolate into the center of each donut.
  8. Optionally dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Keep oil temperature steady to avoid greasy donuts.
  • Let donuts cool slightly before filling to avoid melting the chocolate too quickly.
  • Use Nutella or custard as alternative fillings.
  • Unfilled donuts freeze well—thaw and fill when ready to serve.
  • Don’t overcrowd the fryer to ensure even cooking.
