- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 cup semisweet or milk chocolate (or chocolate spread)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, 1 tsp sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, salt, eggs, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead in softened butter and continue kneading for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough, roll it out on a floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness, and cut out circles using a cutter. Let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- While warm, roll donuts in granulated sugar to coat evenly.
- Melt chocolate or prepare chocolate spread. Fill a piping bag with a narrow tip and pipe chocolate into the center of each donut.
- Optionally dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm or at room temperature.
