Description

Chocolate Buttercream Truffles are rich, creamy bite-sized treats made with smooth chocolate buttercream and coated in a glossy chocolate shell. These indulgent truffles are perfect for gifting, parties, or satisfying any chocolate craving.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips or melting wafers (for coating)
  • Optional: sprinkles, sea salt, or crushed nuts for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until a smooth, thick buttercream forms.
  3. Chill the buttercream in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes until firm enough to handle.
  4. Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, portion and roll the buttercream into 1-inch balls. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Freeze the buttercream balls for 20–30 minutes.
  6. Melt the chocolate chips or wafers in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth.
  7. Dip each buttercream ball into the melted chocolate, letting excess drip off, then return to the parchment paper.
  8. Sprinkle with optional toppings before the coating sets. Let the chocolate harden completely at room temperature or in the fridge.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the smoothest coating.
  • Truffles can be made ahead and stored in the fridge or freezer.
  • If the buttercream becomes too soft while rolling, refrigerate again briefly.
  • Try flavoring the buttercream with espresso powder, mint extract, or orange zest for variations.
