- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream (for frosting)
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate (for frosting)
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans or a 9×13-inch pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well, then stir in vanilla.
- Mix in mashed bananas and sour cream until well combined.
- Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to the batter, mixing until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan(s) and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
- For frosting: Heat chocolate in the microwave or a double boiler until melted, then cool slightly.
- Whip cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Fold in cooled melted chocolate until smooth and fluffy.
- Frost the cooled cake with chocolate cream frosting. Decorate as desired.

- For extra texture, fold in chocolate chips or chopped nuts into the batter.
